Happy early Family Day for tomorrow guys! Ho Ho Ho! (Don't worry, it's not Christmas.)
Wait, it's not Christmas? I woke up at 6 am today for nothing?!
So, Bagel-Man! 12:58 AM, let's go! (I know this has nothing to do with the post's topic.)
Hey guys... how many examples do we have to do for the science chart? And do we need to draw a picture for each example???!!!!
You should take a look back at the table in the book, they had a few examples--five at least--, but, they only drew two of the animals. There is not a lot of space to put all the animals for each class in. The homework board says to choose different examples for different classes, but then it said to draw an image for the new example. I just changed every example that they give us to another example, but it still have the same number of animals. So maybe draw as much as you can on your chart.
Somebody reply me........
Try to think of as many examples as you can.
For the pictures, you could do 1 or 2 picture~but it depends on how much space you have on your paper.
For the mini-report, do we have to put a picture on it?
Like for example, a picture of your countries current leader.
Yes I think so. And do we have to make the picture really fancy and detailed?
Yes, I would like to see everyone use some visuals ( pictures with captions, charts, graphs etc) that will help to understand your topic. A picture of a country leader sounds great! I suggest that you add captions that explain your picture or provide a little bit of information about that person.
UH-OH...... I didn't do a very fancy picture.........
how many examples do we have to choose for science
As much as you desire, or...Actually, yes, I would say how much you desire. The more, the better. The less, the heavier (if you know what I mean).
what did we do this afternoon
Well, we finished the poem which you will have to copy down and then cut it out. Then put on coloured paper and you can cut out or draw pictures that you think represents the poem.
We also did science. You will have to do the check your understanding.
Thanks, Melanie, for bringing Clara up to speed.
Thanks a lot Melanie! (I'm a Goofy GOOBER! Rock!)
Does anyone know rhe vocab this week
HELP. WHAT ARE THE VOCAB WORDS???????
Many students are at a basketball game. You may have to wait until they get home. Once again, I can't emphasize the importance of using agendas.
The vocab words are lingered, constable, cahoots, threadbare, searing, rigid, anguish, fragrant, wheezed, and flapjacks (wrote it in my agenda)
Just for anyone who did not notice, the vocabulary words are in the homework board on the blog right now. No, I'm kidding. Actually, I'm quite right.
It was there about 1 hour ago
Guys, correct me if I'm wrong: We wear pink or red for tomorrow.
Yes on posters they said to wear pink or red preferably but if you don't have pink or red you do not have to
For the poem decorating do we have to outline and colour
when is science due?
Tomorrow. But you wouldn't be very lucky because tomorrow's February 13, 2015, and that is Friday the 13th, so good luck. (I'm not even sure what I wrote.)
I pretty sure tomorrow
Hey guys, what are the vocab words for tuck everlasting chapter14 and 15
Or is there even any voacb words??
There is no vocab for this week
I hope it was happy for everyone.
I'm sooooo happy.............
For the mini-reports what does, what are the main industries, mean?
Industry is the production of a good or service. Here are a few examples:
forestry, tourism, mining, petroleum production, entrainment industry, car manufacturing etc
Kay thanks Ms.M!!!!
Sorry, it was supposed to say 'entertainment industry'.
Ms.M, for the measurements for the area of parallelograms and triangles, do you draw the "outside line" for every one of them? Like the way you taught us to find the height after the base.
It does not have to be an outside line. You can draw your height inside or outside of the parallelogram. Just make sure you start out at a vertex and draw the line to the opposite side. There needs to be a 90 degree angle between the line that your drew (height) and the base.
Watch this video. https://www.khanacademy.org/math/geometry/quadrilaterals-and-polygons/quadrilaterals/v/area-of-a-parallelogram (You can copy and paste it into you search bar) The first part explains where the formula come from. Pay attention to how they draw the height in the video. I have the link to this website posted on the subjects page, under Math. You can use it if needed for other math concepts.
You can also watch this YouTube video
Thanks Ms.M, the video was really clear and very understandable. (It also had very relaxing music.) The second video was kind of confusing in all the scrambling, just my opinion.
Oh, and will there going to be estimating circles on the test?
I am glad at least one of the videos was helpful. And relaxing music is a bonus. See you in class tomorrow.
Okay Ms.M. Hein, Hein, Hein.
what does import mean because the dictionary does not have an answer that I can understand properly
Import means to take in something that came from somewhere or someone. Export means the opposite. Unless I'm mistaken from the book.
Try this website http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/import?s=t
We have also come across this word in your Socials textbook when we were reading about Japan's nature's challenges.
Hey, no problem.
Hey Ms.M when are ALL the mini reports due? I need to plan ahead.
Glad to see you planning ahead! All reports will be due next Wednesday. So, you will have one week after this Wednesday to finish two more reports.
Hey guys, I left my vocab words at school, what are the words for chapter 16+17???
Henry, the words are silty, illiterates, roust, stern (boat), peril, silhouettes, willy-inly, ordeal, accommodations and rapidly
Many thanks, Joshua and Kevin.
Don't thank me Ms.M, thank Joshua.
pink day dance was awesome
I know. I was so "happy."
Ok Someone needs to fill me in on this "happy" thing. I feel that I am missing something. You can do that at school
You did a great job! I will post a few pictures on our website soon. Check for updates.
ms m the link to are prezi is below
Thank you, Nitish. I can see it :)
Ms.Bernard, can we write more characteristics on the table on CYU (Check Your Understanding)? I mean, like, rather just two examples? I sense that that's going to make a difference.
Another question: Ms.M, can we use a protractor on the test? I did #9 on the Practice Page using a protractor and got the answers right .(Of course, I checked the back after.)
I've been trying to send you our prezi for a while but it is not working. Encase you didn't get our email the link ishttps://prezi.com/1jillgjemtfa/ancient-egypt/
Thanks you, Clara. I enjoyed watching the fireworks.
wait ignore that one, use this one
Ms. M, did u get me and Peter's prezi? I sent it a while ago
No, I didn't. But no worries, there must have been a computer glitch. Just post it here and I will be able to see it.
I don't know WHY, but I searched the flash mob of Youtube and found this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xW7_xcAmGTg. Figures.
I think you and Gordan are leading as our class top detectives :)
This is it. This is us today. We are somewhere in the left top corner under the yellow sign.
Kevin, check your e-mails. I can't see your Prezi and I think I know what is wrong. I explained it in my reply.
Ms.M, can I just send it here? Clara and Nitish's group posted it here and it worked. But when someone send the prezi on their email, it didn't work. That's what I was thinking. Well, I think this is the right link:
Yeahhh! I can see it now.
No problem, Ms.M!
Happy Chinese New Year Div. 7!
Yes, Happy Lunar New Year!
Hi Ms. M, sorry about the the delay on the prezi but I think this is the link: https://prezi.com/rpoairowirqv/ancient-egyptian-architecture-and-pyramids/
I like the name Joshua: Petershua Mariang, ha. Ha. Ha. And, "Illuminati confirmed!" Haw!
Ms.M can i have my test on Monday please
Didn't your write it today? If you did not, then yes, you can write it on Monday.
Does anyone know when L.A is due (vocab and response)
Was there any Tuck Everlasting vocabulary words for the weekend guys? I know this is a weird question, but was there?
There is no vocab for this week.
Only reading response
Right you are.
Tehani can you give me your phone number, because we need to finish the cell diorama by Friday. you can send me your number through my Gmail: firstname.lastname@example.org
Lucas, I know you are pressured for time, but it is not a good idea to post your e-mail online. This is a public website and anyone can see what you post. I would not like anyone to be able to identify who you are and/or send you private messages. I will leave your message up for a few hours and then delete it. If you can't get a hold of Tehani, maybe you should start working on this project on your own. She can either help you later or build her own mode.
For S.S. does the article have to be about a real life event? Or can you make up a story?
It has to be based on the facts that did happen, but you can be creative about it. For example, if you researched pyramids, you can write an article about a robbery of a royal tomb. This would be based on a true fact that during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses IX, a number of workmen stood trial for tomb robbing. You can elaborate on the details, but you article needs to be somewhat based on your research.
So...What would happen if you wrote about Egyptian gods and goddesses? People party everyday in front of the statues? (Sorry.)
I would try to come up with something a little bit more interesting. Maybe you can write an advice column on how to properly worship your gods or or you can pretend that you were allowed inside of a temple. Only Pharaohs and his priests were allowed inside. You can describe what you witnessed happening behind the closed doors. You can also write an informational article explaining who is who in a gallery of gods. These are only suggestions. Feel free to come up with your own idea.
Ms.M, can you put some dialogues in the article? Like someone saying lines?
Ms.M what does Economic Complexity Index (ECI) mean?
I found it on Google. It is a holistic measure of the production characteristics of large economic systems, but...usually whole countries.
I don't think Lucas needs to get into such complex things.
I honestly don't know, and I would need to research that if I were to give you an answer. It sounds way beyond what you need to know about your country's economy. I suggest that you type in you topic of research and add "for kids". Then you are more likely to get information suitable for Grade 6 level.
Or ... use the books that you borrowed from the school library. They are written in a middle school friendly language.
I have tried both and couldn't find any answer
I have tried both and couldn't find anything
Try different key words - "India natural resources for kids"
Ms.M for are mini report in food the question says what are famous dishes so do I just list famous dishes
I wouledname a few and then write a recipe for one of them.
how many paragraphs do you need for the newspaper article
Your choice i think
Flora is right. The length of your article will depend on what you are writing about and the type of the article. If you are writing an advice column, you will probably include a letter from a newspaper reader with a request for an advice and a reply to that letter. Generally, you article should be about a page and a half, single space, handwritten.
For the newspaper article do the 3 additional elements have to be on the newspaper or separate?
In the newspaper, but not in your article. You will have a chance to work on these extra things later.
What should I draw for the lifestyle and work report cover?
It is hard to tell without actually seeing your mini-report. Read through your report and ask yourself what illustration may help your reader better understand what you wrote about. Also, it does not have to be an illustration. It can be a chart, a Venn diagram etc
Thanks but how detailed should the chart be ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
And can I do a web like the one we did on Japan
Who won kudos????
Here is my prezi
Yes, you can do that.
I found a really cool story called "curse of the pharaohs" but my topic is mummification, life after death, and grave goods. would it still work, cuz the curse is death?
I left a book on your chair with an interesting article. I wonder if it is the same story that you are talking about. Take a look tomorrow. Let me know if it is. It might work.
Hey guys, do we do chapter 20+21 tuck everlasting response for homework?
Ms.m what percent is a c+???
I think I got the percent board for marks memorized. Here it is:
Well, this was what you were talking about right?
My answer is almost the same as Kevin's. Only I use 60-67% = C+
For science can you add more than the parts of the cell
I think you can but just be sure to label them correctly
Hey guys, did we have any vocab homework ?
Henry, the vocab is:
petulance, acrid, gentility, ebbed, flailing, Taranation, mantel, hearth, wistful and revulsion
Ms.M, for the prezi, how many topics do we have to do?
Ms.Bernard, on the quiz tomorrow, can we look at the book, or we're not allowed to use the book?
If we can't use the book for some reason on he Tuck Everlasting quiz tomorrow, then there's going to be trouble for a lot of people. Possibly.
Melanie, check the project description that I gave at the very beginning of the project. It tells you exactly what should be on your Prezi.
Ms.M, on Monday the boys' basketball team have to play a basketball game at Kitsilano. Boy, that is pretty far away. But the point is, we have to leave early. Can we?
I definably don't want anyone to be late to the game. I assume that you have parents or Mr. Low driving you to the game. I will let you leave as soon as the parent drivers come. What time do you play and at what school?
We have to leave at about 2:35 PM at least and we're playing at Kitsilano.
What if we hand in our cells project late?do u take 10% off ???
Anonymous. Anonymous. Anonymous. Somehow I feel that this person is either Henry or Bagel Man. Or, even better, Piravinan.
Ahem!! This is NOT me!!!!!!
Why is it always anonymous?
I have a feeling that it might be Flora or Lucas! It could be bagel-man
I think I know who...........
please answer the question -_-
Okay, fine. You would probably get marks off since it is almost spring break. And spring break is two weeks and if you are not done before it, then you would have to take it home and wait for two weeks then hand it in after.
You might lose a lot of marks like 40% if you hand it in 2 weeks late
okay thank you kevin le
Identify yourself !!!!!!!!! Who are you????????
No one posted any homework lately, not that I'm worrying about it though.
Ms.Bernard, can we add extra parts just for decorations? It's because mine is kind of "deserted" and might need more candies to put on.
I don't think it would be too deserted if you put on all the parts of the cell
how much time do we get tomorrow for science?(my identity is a secret)
I think I know who you are...................
then who am i ?
The past is answered in the future of today's past.
I mean for the top question that the so called "Anonymous" asked first before the argument started.
I think 1 period
(I'm not sure)
How many topics do we have to do on the prezi?
Someone please answer!!
Bear with me, but what do you mean topics? (I don't really know what the grade 6's are doing for Prezi.)
I am copying this from your assignment sheet. Hope this helps.
Each group will complete the following:
1. Take all the mini-reports and create a Prezi presentation.
2. Include text features. A text feature can be a map, a table, a diagram, a pie chart, a graph, a flow chart, a picture etc. You are allowed to use pictures from internet as long as you cite them properly. Make sure to add captions to your pictures.
(So you’ll have a presentation made up of 8 topics and at least 8 text features. That should include geography, religion, government, plus 6 topics that you and your partner researched (3 topics from each partner). If your partner did not complete his/her 3 topics, you are only responsible for including what you did. I will speak to the person who did not pull his weight individually). Remember that you were supposed
In addition, your Prezi needs to include
3. The presentation must contain the following:
a) a world map with your country labeled
b) a country map labeled with major cities and landforms (mountains, valleys, lakes, rivers and oceans)
c) one comparison/contrast assignment – one topic gets compared to Canada (i.e. government in India is compared to government in Canada, or education in China gets compared to education in Canada etc).
d) A timeline of the main historic events of your country
e) A bibliography!!
You will have two periods of Socials on Monday to finish your work.
Ms.M, for the penguin article's closing sentence, do we end it up with how they lay eggs (like the article) or do we end it with both of how they walk and lay eggs?
You should end with restating your main idea, which should include what the ENTIRE article is about. You main idea should be broad enough to include ALL supporting details that were discussed in the article. You can also sum up the key points of the article (very briefly), in 2-3 sentences.
What if our partner isn't at school tomorrow
Partner...You're...A grade 7! I know it, you're talking about the Prezi if you didn't have your partner.
Let's hope that does not happen.
Is there marks for our presentation and if there is what is it out of?
You are Flora. No, I'm serious. Unless I'm mistaken....
Guilty as charged.....
It was a tough game at Kitsilano high school. We lost 50-42 to Hastings Elementary. But, as men (or are we?), we have tried very hard to achieve that goal for our school and did our best. Even if we lost, we still made some friends with Hastings and had fun at the same time.
Yes, I am proud of our boys! Great season, everyone! You have gained a lot from just being on the team!
Ms. M when we are presenting our prezi, do we have to talk about the entire timeline on history?
And do we also have to memorize what we have to say when we present?
What some of the grade 7's did for Prezi today was that we can look off the screen. But some of us made the mistake of saying everything that was up there. You could look at the screen and say your Prezi up there, but you got to turn your head sometime to look at the audience, and be snappy, or you might lose marks.
Did you mean "be concise" = "brief and to the the point"?
I think I know who anonymous is... Flora! kevin, did it really take u this long to find out who it is? I just found out after searching for 10 min!
For history, just briefly mention the events on your timeline and highlight (say a couple of sentences about ) the one that you think is the most important.
You don't have to memorize everything, but you need to rehearse your presentation enough, so that you are comfortable with the material and do not have to look at the screen all the time. A quick glance at the screen should be enough to remind you what you need to say.
We don't have to memorize our lines!
Can I change to 5:45 for tomorrow's conference (March 4th 2015) Ms.M?
That's fine, Justin. I will just change the time on the schedule. Please remind me to do that tomorrow morning.
Should we answer the 2 questions from tuck everlasting on a sheet of paper or just think about it and talk about it on the day we do the debate?
Those conferences felt longer than 15 min!
Thanks for what you said to me today Ms.M...
My pleasure, Melanie. I hope you are feeling back to your usual self. See you very soon.
is the french script due after spring break? :)
I believe so. You got to translated into French too. Try to print out some copies to give to your group when you're on your break. That is what Sir Peter and I are doing for our group. (Well, I think.) Anyway, there is only one more week of the Spring Break so have fun...While you still can.
You guys might find me wired but I kinda miss school and homework!
I don't think this is weird at all. Keep yourself busy for the next couple of weeks. Make a trip to the library. Sign out some books to read.
Also, if anyone from Grade 6s (Including Melanie) reads this message, please re-post your Prezis. This time make sure you are logged in before you copy the letters in the search bar. So, far all I can see is the Log In page.
I don't think so.......... do you really miss school that much ???
First official day of Spring Break. Ha.
We have no homework for spring break right? Please reply since my mom doesn't believe me when I say that.
I believe that you guys-I mean the grade 6's- don't have any homework for the break. I mean, why would you anyway? Enjoy your break, work when you come back.
Lucas, you are right. There is no homework for the spring break. However, I am still waiting for you and Marga to send me a link to your Social Studies Preizi. Two of you still have to present it to Grade 6s. Apart from that, no homework has been assigned for the spring break. Relax and and recharge for the final term.
Is the whole newspaper article thingy due tmr?
